Guilherme de Alencar Barreto

Guilherme de Alencar Barreto holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará, a master’s degree (1998) and a doctorate (2003) in Electrical Engineering from the São Carlos School of Engineering/USP (1998), with a sandwich doctorate at the University of Bielefeld (Germany). He is an associate professor at the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering, Federal University of Ceará. His main area of research is computational intelligence and machine learning with applications in robotics, identification and control of dynamic systems and pattern recognition. He is a member of the Brazilian Society for Computational Intelligence (SBIC), having been its president for the 2015-2017 and 2019-2021 biennia (sbic.org.br/diretorias). He is also a member of the Brazilian Society of Automation (SBA).  He has been editor-in-chief of the journal Learning Nonlinear Models (LNLM), published by SBIC, since 2009. He is also a member of the editorial board of the journals International Journal of Innovative Computing and Applications (Inderscience) and Frontiers in Big Data/Artificial Intelligence/Bionformatics and Computational Neuroscience. He was coordinator of the Graduate Program in Teleinformatics Engineering – PPGETI (CAPES 6), Federal University of Ceará for 2 terms (AGO/2017-JUL/2019 and AGO/2019-JUL/2021). He has been general chair and/or program committee chair of several national (SBIC, SBR-LARS, SBAI, CBA, CBSF) and international (IEEE MLSP, IEEE WCCI, IDEAL, NAFIPS) scientific events.
