JOSÉ ANTÔNIO FERNANDES DE MACEDO
He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University of Ceará and has served as Chief Scientist of the Government of the State of Ceará since 2018. He is the coordinator of the Data Science Laboratory (InsightLab) at UFC and the ÍRIS Innovation and Data Laboratory of the Civil House of the Government of Ceará. He was the coordinator of the Graduate Master’s and Doctoral Program of the Department of Computer Science from 2017 to 2019.
He earned his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in 2001 and 2005, respectively. During his doctoral studies, he spent 8 months conducting research at TELECOM Bretagne – École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications Bretagne in France, followed by 10 months at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He completed his postdoctoral research at EPFL from 2006 to 2009.
His research focuses on large-scale data processing in cloud computing environments. He also has a strong interest in the development of data mining and machine learning algorithms for processing large volumes of data (Big Data). He has published more than 150 papers in qualified conferences and journals, with over 4,200 citations on Google Scholar.
